Moon Song - Wolf Scent by Taina Chapter 2

“Where were you?” a rough voice said behind me, sounding more furious than when I'd left the house this morning. I whipped my head around to see Satchel leaning on the side entrance of the front door, with a pair of black slacks with white suspenders under a navy blue wife beater. The Alpha in him growling for a response out of me.
Frowning, he straightened up and eyed the hooded top I was wearing. “Lost property,” I said, shooting over my shoulder. “You mean you stole someone’s property? I didn’t say that to him, it’ll only make his frown deepen and his eyes spit fire.
I rolled my eyes away from him. A shadow casted over his green eyes that were identical to mine, and his jaw ticked as if he were biting down the urge to scold me for the sarcasm. I am home, and this is my bed," I countered, flailing my arm around my childhood room.
Sighing, I snatched a pair of cargo's, and a tanktop out of my drawers, and pinned him with a glare.
"I need to get cleaned up, so if you'd excuse me," I muttered, stepping past him but he caught me by the wrist, his lips curling back, and his nose flaring. I winced as his fingers coiled around my wound, and the minute he noticed, he shoved the sleeve of the hood up to reveal my bandaged wound. Satchel narrowed his eyes on me. "Who did this?" he gritted out, his glare becoming two fire pits of hell. I could feel the Alpha in him summoning to the surface, and I tried to control my heart beat.
When I didn't give him an immediate response, his nose flared again, sniffing the scent that he'd obviously picked up on me "Cairo," he growled, making the walls shutter in its wake. My eyes widened in protest, and I caught his arm yelling out my protest about overreacting, but he yanked it out, and jabbed a finger in my face. "Lie to me again, and you'll never get to run in wolf form. I clenched my teeth, wiping the frayed curls of my hair out of my face, and managed a death glare. "Are you challenging me?" he growled, glaring at me. I yanked the door open, only to find Satchel had disappeared out of view. Huffing, I tried to slam the door, but the bolt wouldn't catch, making me slam the hell out of it, resorting only to kick the thing because it wouldn't close.
Deciding I couldn't stop him, I managed a quick shower, dressing in my cargos and tank top, and stuffed a few extra pair of clothing, a bottle of water, a pack of granola bars, and my favorite camera and scrapbook into my backpack. My reflection caught me by surprise, and I frowned in the nearest mirror. My curly hair was still damp from the shower, making it cascade over my shoulders in rivulets and waves. The pink blush on my arm had faded a little, but I kept a bandage wrapped around just incase I accidently ripped it open from running. I bit my lips, glaring at Satchel's comment. Just because he'd smelt Cairo's scent on me?
I eyed the gray hooded top that was shrewn across my bed. Even though I'd scrubbed the scent off my body in the shower, I could still smell it as if honey suckle and sycamore had been injected in my veins.
Grabbing the hood, I sniffed the collar, and reveled in the sweet smell, trying to ignore the soft hum it made inside me as it stirred the beast within.
I shoved the garment in my backpack, and zipped it up, deciding to take a walk. Deciding, that's exactly what I would do, I hiked my backpack on my shoulder, and trudged through the forest clutching my camera in my fist. The notes changing, making a beautiful sound that could rival an Angel's lullaby.
I followed it, catching a butterfly spring from a branch, and snapped it on camera, before moving forward where the soft cadence was coming from, thinking it was strange that it I'd never heard it before. I crouched behind a tree, as I pinned my eyes on the bare back of Cairo, as he played a song on a bone flute that I knew now that that's where the sound was coming, from and a smile flirted with my lips. I raised my lens, and leveled in an angle that captured his hands raised to his lips, having the waterfall in the background of my shot.
The polaroid spit out a photo, and I shook it as the picture materialized right in front of me. Frowning, I stood upright, to see if my eyes were playing tricks on me.
My eyes averted back to my picture, and I tilted my head. I yelped, sending my camera and the picture I'd been holding, to the ground, whipping my head around to see a very wet, very pissed off Cairo.
Up close, I could make out the warm color of ochre beaming from his eyes, and when my eyes noticed the bruise that was forming under his eye and cheek, that I hadn't seen there this morning. His bottom lip was busted open, and looked like it was still oozing of blood. I frowned, wondering if he'd been in a fight, when I remembered Satchel had been out looking for him.
I fisted up my hands, and growled. I clenched my teeth, angry that Satchel had thrown his control out the window without knowing what had happened. "He's got some nerve," I gritted out, glaring at the bruises he'd made on Cairo's face. "I wouldn't fret too much, Red Fox.
"You take that?" he asked, handing my camera back. I shrugged as if it were obvious, as I fumbled with my camera string. Great! I repeated my earlier question, as he handed the photo back to me. I pulled out his gray hood zip up top, and the honey suckle and sycamore scent wafted through my nostrils, making them flare in delight. "I thought you'd want it before Satchel made me burn it." I bit my lips, fighting my way between wanting to wipe his bleeding lip, and making my brother pay for his stupidity. I huffed. "Just so you know, he jumped to conclusions the minute he spotted the wound, and smelt your scent." I rolled my eyes, and scowled at the memory. I gestured to his face, as if to show that that's why Satchel had flipped out on him.
Cairo nodded, recognition settling in his eyes, replacing his frown with a teasing smirk. We stood there in awkward silence, after he shoved his hood in his backpack, and he frowned. It didn't sound like the usual scolding that Satchel always shot me with warning about wandering out of our territory, no.
It almost sounded like it pained him to say those words, as if the thought made him sick to his stomach.
It was that smoky cedar smell from this morning drifting through the summer air.
Male voices sounded from the right side of me, and I could just make out four males huddled in the distance, just on the outskirts of our territory.
"Yeah, if that douche bag didn't interrupt. Who the hell was he anyway?" the other bit out, and I noticed piercing blue eyes that stood out in contrast next to his spiky black hair.
"You going soft, Ochrien."
The other three laughed it off, but the guy with piercing blue eyes wasn't amused by his comment. "We need to recruit more, if we plan on taking over this territory," he all but snarled, and I gasped inwardly, when a large hand cupped my mouth from behind. My eyes widened, almost startling me to death, when I turned around to see who it was.
Cairo was on his haunches, sending me a warning look with his index pressed against his mouth in a silent gesture for me to be quiet.
I knew Cairo wanted to pounce on them, but he kept his distance, although he was glaring a little too hard there.
Cairo turned to me, running his eyes over me and for the life of me, I liked the way he looked at me. I challenged him. We sat there meeting each others glare, hoping one all the other would stop, but he never gave in, and the hell I was going to let him win.
A glint of amusement flickered in his eyes, and I could almost swear his lips were twitching. I raised my eyebrows at him, shoving my backpack higher on my shoulder. "And for the record, say that I'm stupid again, and I'll bust that cut on your lip wider."
He blinked in confusion down at me, as his eyebrows knit in to a frown, and then abruptly he barked a laugh that stunned me speechless. The soft melodic rumble sounded like music to my ears, stirring the beast inside me again. The whole moment lasted mere seconds, but it felt like time had slowed, and my wolf was awakened by this delightful moment.
Shaking his head, he heading in the direction of home, and he raised his eyebrows over his shoulder.
